Song for 4 Marimbas

about

Jovica Storer (real name Joost Carpentier) has been creating music with sequencer software since 1989. It was only then that he had put enough money aside to buy himself a computer, sequencing software (Dynaduet) and a Korg DSS-1 Digital Sampling Workstation. The second experiment he did with these tools was an ode to the work of Steve Reich. It is a composition for 4 Marimbas played by 8 players.
Song for 4 Marimbas has a main theme which is the 14th measure. This main theme is being built up gradually during the previous 13 measures. When the 14th measure has been reached by the first marimba, the second starts to play the same 14 measures while the first marimba keeps on playing the 14th measure. The only difference is that the second marimba is shifted 1/32nd note in time and that the notes are played a bit louder. When the second marimba reaches its 14th measure, the third marimba kicks in and this one plays the same sequence of 14 measures, but 1 octave higher than the first marimba, while the first 2 marimbas keep on repeating their 14th measure. When also the third marimba has reached its 14th measure, the fourth marimba starts playing its 14 measures, but 1 octave higher than the second marimba, all of this while the 3 other marimbas keep on repeating their 14th measure. When the fourth marimba has reached measure 14, the first marimba starts playing its 14 measures but in the reversed order, while marimbas 2, 3 and 4 keep on repeating measure 14. After that the same reversed order starts for marimba 2, while marimbas 3 and 4 keep on repeating measure 14 and so on until finally marimba 4 ends by playing measure 1 of the theme build up alone at the end.

This is the second album in the From the vault series. The From the vault series of albums will contain all older work from Jovica Storer.
